The snow is melting around these parts and we are anxiously awaiting spring. The kids have been bouncing off the walls for weeks now and we need some warm weather to get outside and run. Maybe our desire to bring on spring is the reason we’re drawn to using light colors at the moment. This cute pair of vintage dressers are our latest pieces to get a fresh spring makeover. With soft, curvy lines and darling hardware I instantly thought these would look lovely painted in soft shades for a baby or child’s room.

Stuart set to work removing the hardware, and *bam* one of the pulls I loved so much broke right apart in his hand! After giving him some serious side-eye, Stuart suggested we try soldering the pieces back together. I was skeptical since, after all, people will pull on the pulls, but I wanted to keep them so badly we soldered on (pun intended).
Well, the soldering didn’t work. The pull didn’t even hold up to re-installation on the drawer. Next we tried bridging a piece of metal across the break with epoxy glue. Success! This worked really well and we are satisfied the pulls would hold up to pulling for a long time to come. We painted the hardware white using a spray primer and spray paint. You can read about our process for refinishing hardware here.

Epoxy steel worked well to repair the broken hardware.
After
We like to keep our babies’ rooms fairly neutral and bring in color through linens and decor. Our baby’s nursery is soft greys with yellow accents. Ok, technically at 19 months she’s a toddler, but as the last of three she’ll always be my baby! Anyways, I love the combination so much I chose a soft grey with white hardware for these dressers as well. You can learn more about our technique to achieve a near perfect paint finish here.

One of the great parts about choosing a neutral paint color for baby or children’s furniture is that it can grow with them. I can equally picture these pieces in my own bedroom by adding a little glam on top.

Which look do you prefer? Do you like grey as a neutral paint color for furniture? We’d love it if you’d leave us your thoughts on this vintage dresser makeover in the comment box below.
These lovely spring dressers have found new homes in Etobicoke and Woodbridge, Ontario. We hope they are enjoyed for years to come. On to the next one.
Hello- what color paint did you use for this dresser?
Hi Erica, I’m sorry I can’t recall now! I should have put it in the blog post! It is similar to Fusion’s Little Lamb if that helps. Good luck!
